Vaccinations play an important role in protecting your health and that of others. Vaccinations protect you against infectious diseases. A vaccination teaches your body to recognise a pathogen. If you come into contact with that disease later on, your body can respond quickly and you will usually not become ill, or will be less ill. In the Netherlands, you receive many vaccinations through the National Immunisation Programme. Some vaccinations are also available from your GP or the GGD.
