Veilig Thuis (Safe Home) is the advice and reporting centre for domestic violence and child abuse. Whether it concerns you or someone in your environment: you can always contact them with questions, suspicions or concerns. Talking is the first step towards getting help.
Do you require advice or assistance for yourself and/or someone else? Veilig Thuis is there for you. When you contact Veilig Thuis, you will speak to a Veilig Thuis employee. The employee will take the time to listen carefully to your story, work with you to sort everything out, answer your questions and give advice. He or she will also work with you to determine what help you need. It is possible to share your story anonymously.
Sometimes you notice signs that make you wonder whether everything is okay. Perhaps there is regular noise and arguing from the neighbours, you often see someone with unexplained bruises, or a child's behaviour stands out – for example, they are very jumpy or gloomy. It is not always clear what exactly is going on, and whether there is neglect, maltreatment or abuse. Nevertheless, it is important not to look away and to seek help or advice. Wondering what you can do?
Are things not going well at home? Or are you not doing well? Because you are being verbally abused, for example, or perhaps even physically abused? Or because your parents argue a lot and shout at each other? Then you will want to do something about it.
Discuss it!
It is very important that you do not keep it to yourself. The sooner you get help, the better. So talk to someone about it! Even if there are people who say you should not talk about it.
If you do talk about it, you can take a step towards a solution together, however scary that may sometimes be. You can always call Veilig Thuis (free of charge), but you can also call or chat with Kindertelefoon!
