If you are taking medication long-term, it is important that you replenish your supply in good time. To prevent you from running out of medication, you can simply request a repeat prescription. A repeat prescription is a new prescription from your GP for a medicine that you have already been prescribed. Your GP will assess whether it is safe to continue taking the medicine and then send the prescription to your chemist.
There are various ways to request a (repeat) prescription. You can choose the method that suits you best.

Do you use medicines that you need on a long-term or chronic basis, such as for blood pressure, cholesterol or diabetes? If so, you can use the pharmacy's repeat prescription service. With this service, you no longer need to request repeat prescriptions yourself. The pharmacy keeps track of when your medication is running low and requests a new prescription from your GP in good time. As soon as your medication is ready, you will receive an email notification from the pharmacy. You will receive this notification approximately one week before your supply runs out, so that you can collect your medication on time.
