Repeat prescriptions

If you are taking medication long-term, it is important that you replenish your supply in good time. To prevent you from running out of medication, you can simply request a repeat prescription. A repeat prescription is a new prescription from your GP for a medicine that you have already been prescribed. Your GP will assess whether it is safe to continue taking the medicine and then send the prescription to your chemist.

There are various ways to request a (repeat) prescription. You can choose the method that suits you best.

Explore the possibilities

1. Request by telephone

You may contact the doctor's assistant by telephone on 020 – 641 2148, Press 2 in the menu. Speak clearly:

  • your date of birth
  • and the name of the medicine for which you would like a repeat prescription.

The medicine can be collected from your pharmacy after 2 working days.

2. Online prescription service

You can also easily request repeat prescriptions via your patient environment. This is a secure environment where you can view and manage your own medical data. After creating a personal account, you can:

  • view your medication list;
  • request repeat prescriptions without having to enter all the medicine names again each time;
  • and ask your GP about your medication.

Even if you order online, your medication will be ready at your pharmacy within two working days.

3. Repeat prescription service via pharmacy

Do you use medicines that you need on a long-term or chronic basis, such as for blood pressure, cholesterol or diabetes? If so, you can use the pharmacy's repeat prescription service. With this service, you no longer need to request repeat prescriptions yourself. The pharmacy keeps track of when your medication is running low and requests a new prescription from your GP in good time. You will receive this notification approximately one week before your supply runs out, so that you can collect your medication on time.
